Education is not the filling of a bucket, but the lighting of a fire.

Thinking about Homeschooling? How exciting! We are thrilled that you are exerting your right to choose your child’s education. Regardless of what you decide to do, we are privileged you are visiting our site and hope that we can assist you and your family!

Deciding to homeschool is a big decision! Do not fear! First, pray. Know that God has equipped us with everything we need and will fill in the gaps where we lack. Take one decision at a time and one year at a time. You do not have to make a life time commitment right now. Just working with your child/ children one-on-one for a year or two will bring many benefits that he/ she would not receive in a traditional school setting. It is ok to do a trial run.

What curriculum do I chose? There are so many choices out there today that it is easy to get overwhelmed. When looking through options, think about these key things: 1) Choose something that looks fun to you. If you are excited to teach it, they will be excited to learn. 2) When starting out, stick to the basics- reading, writing, and math. Don’t overwhelm yourself with the burden of trying to create the world’s next genius! Let all other subjects that interest you be just for fun. Building a strong foundation in the basics excels them to do well later on in all areas. 3) Don’t spend a fortune when buying curriculum for the first time. After spending more time teaching your child, you will begin to see what his/ her specific needs are. Also, as you begin meeting other moms, you discover other curriculums out there that may be more appealing to you.

Think outside the box! It may be hard for you to understand the freedom you have in homeschooling! Education is everywhere, so use it! You can school on the go, on a field trip, during story time before bed or in the back yard! Let your kids yell out their spelling words while jumping on the trampoline. You’ll know if your child needs something different. You are not required to school certain hours, or a certain way. Just because your child is not at a desk from 8:00am-3:00pm, doesn’t mean he’s not getting an excellent education! Take your curriculum anywhere!

Above all- Do not second guess yourself! God created you with a desire and a purpose. You don’t need any teaching experience or amazing math skills to teach your child to love God, learning, serving and to love others around him/ her.
