Welcome to FHIS Chess Club!

Chess is one of my passions and it will be my absolute pleasure to guide your children in acquiring basic skills in this amazing strategic game!
We will be meeting second Friday of the month at McCallum Room on the 4th Floor at Frisco Public Library. Sometimes, we might have to change the date if we won't find the conference room available.

Children between 7-18 years old will have the opportunity to learn, practice, and improve their Chess skills once a month. We will have nine sessions throughout the year and every May will have a tournament where they will have the opportunity to compete against one another. There will be trophies for the first three places and certificates for the rest of the participants.

The class will be structured as follows: Review Time- 15 min, Instruction Time- 30 min, Free Play and Individual Instruction Time- 45 min. Because it requires more than 1½ hr of practice a week in order to advance in their skills, the  children, with the help of their parents, will study the new concepts and implement them at least twice a week.

Participants don't have to bring their own boards. The club already has eight classic tournament Chess boards, most of them borrowed from Boys and Girls Club of Collin County. It is important that we would handle them with care till it is time to return them.

Our new website allows you now to sign up as participants and/or attendees. When you sign up for the event, please put the number of children participating separate from yourself or their younger siblings. We need an even number of Chess players each session.

This is not a drop-off event, but parents do not have to be in the same room with the children who are attending the club, as long as they remain in the building. They can take their younger ones to the second floor, the kids area, where they have the freedom to play and make moderate noise. If they decide to attend, they should be mindful of screaming or crying that could distract from Chess Club participation. At the same time, we have to be  especially quiet upon coming/leaving the Chess Club meeting room and walking through the halls. We have to constantly remind the children that our club meets at the library where loud gatherings are not welcome.

Thank you for helping Frisco HIS Chess Club maintain a positive reputation and a good relationship with Frisco Public Library!

If you have any questions, please feel free to contact me at 214-850-1158.

I look forward to seeing you,
